Building national network in The Netherlands

One of the aims of the Network to support trainers in Europe is to build up and sustain networks for trainers on a national level. Jaap van Lakerveld, Erik Kats and myself regularly discuss ways in which this could be done in The Netherlands.

We came up with theĀ idea is to build a Dutch version of the network website. On this website we would like to raise current issues in the field of teaching and training. These should be issues that are relevant for the Netherlands, but most likely they will be equally interesting for teachers, trainers, researchers and policy makers in other countries in Europe.

The following four subjects have our interest.

  • The proportionoal rise in the ageing population

How do you deal with the increasing number of older workers? Do they require another didactical approach then starters? How do you keep workers up-to-date throughout their professional careers? What could be done to keep their work challenging?

  • Changing roles and competences of teachers and trainers

Recent developments in for example ICT and the changing expectations and attitudes of learners have had an impact on the roles and competencies that teachers and trainers need to do their jobs. How have these roles changed over the last decades?

  • Increasing globalisation and internationalisation in training

With the increasing inflow of workers from other countries trainers have to adapt to a more heterogenous group of learners. Apart from language barriers they should be aware of cultural differences in learning. Also, teachers and trainers nowadays have more possibilities to work across the border. What qualifications and skills do they need?

  • Positive and negative learning experiences

Think of a situation in which you learned a lot. Why was this the case? Did it have to do with the methods the teacher/trainer used or was it something else? Also recall a learning experience that was not so positive for you. Why did it not work? What should have done different/better in your opinion?

We would like to invite everyone to contribute to this list of subjects. What subject or issue do you think is relevant to discuss? Please feel free to comment.
