Annual Austrian State Award “Fit for Future” 2009

May 6th, 2009 by Silvia Weiss

Austrian training enterprises are invited to take part in the competition for the Austrian State Award “Fit for Future”. The prize will be awarded by the Federal Ministry of Economics, Youth and Family and is remunerated with EUR 1.000,-.

Within this tender the enterprises present their apprenticeship-training according to the quality, innovation and sustainablitity. The awarding is very much influenced by the situation, the continuing vocational education and other activities of the trainers in the different companies. Hence, this award also hounours the work of in-company trainers in the apprenticeship-training. All Austrian enterprises that are educating apprentices are invited to take part. More information you will find on www.ibw.at/fitforfuture.

Data security

August 29th, 2008 by Silvia Weiss

Dear colleges!Today I posted on the platform the following suggestion. I send it to you also by e-mail, because I think it is an important topic….Do you think it is necessary to have a declaration of data security for people who want to be a member of this platform? In the project I worked before we had such a declaration and it worked like this: By the first login in, a pop-up window was opened (by the system) and then you had to “sign” (click yes or no) the declaration of data security, clicking “no” – you couldn´t take part. We also put the declaration (as well as the “nettikette”) on the home-page that everybody can download and read it all the time. The content of this data security was made by an attorney at law. The more people that take part, the more insecure will be personal data … I also plead for something what is called in German “netikette” (netiquet?), a guideline of those contents we don´t want that they are posted, like sexist or racist posts …. (and what we in addition don´t want) ….. Do you think it is necessary for this platform?

National Award for apprenticeship training – “Fit for Future”

August 26th, 2008 by Silvia Weiss

In this post I want to intodruce you an Austrian specific: „Fit for Future“ is an Austrian national award that decorates Austrian enterprises with the best apprenticeship training. The award was founded in 2000 since this year it is a national award. The prize is given to enterprises with the best concept of apprenticeship training. This means the professional as well as the personality training of the young people and if there are additional offers for the apprentices, i. e. drug prevention or trainings in driving safety. “Fit for Future” also comprises a special prize for apprenticeship trainings for people with special needs. More information: http://www.ibw.at/fitforfuture/

Apprenticeship training in Austria is a part of the VET-programm.  Apprenticeship training is provided both at the training enterprise (practical training, which makes up some 80% of the training period) and parttime vocational school. It is the task of these vocational schools to expand the trainees’ general education and complement the specialist knowledge and skills they are taught in the training enterprises. Depending on the apprenticeship, training lasts between two and four years, mostly three years. At the end of the training, every apprentice can take an apprenticeship-leave examination. Young people with special education needs, disabilities or reduced mobility have the possibility to attend an integrative VET programme. Due to an extension of the apprenticeship period by one to a maximum of two years or attendance of programmes on partial qualifications agreed on between the trainee and the enterprise it is possible to meet the special needs of young people.
